Freezing rain and bitter cold all next week

I'd let them choose. lol..Being in NH mine adapted pretty well and realize when they fly out of the run and land in a pile of snow..they just stand there completely confused! So..I have to drag myself out to them and pick them up bringing them back to the run. lol They'll figure out what they like and don't like. Nasty freezing ran today in NH too along with all that snow last night I think you got too.

Well, I went out, the driveway is a ice rink so is the run and the ramp to get in/out of the coop. Wish I had it on video, the first 10 or so went right out like a normal dry day(it is just a sprinkle now) they made the first step in the icy ramp and slid the 6ft to the bottom! After about 10 hens did it, one got traction about 1/2 way down then there was a bit of a pile up! The last one was smart and stayed in and then jumped off the side. At least one made it back inside when I was getting the eggs. It was the rooster and he was not happy! He came at me 10 times! I used the growl and kick away method. Finally he went back out side and I skated back in...
Have you seen that video on YouTube where the lady opens her coop door and her coop ladder had no stops on it? Like six hens one by one slide down this ramp into the snow. lol Pretty hilarious.

20's is a winter heat wave where I live! My pop door is open every day. The flock is not at all happy with this weather. They will come out for a while in the warm part of the day.
I have a horrible coop door entry design with my run so when it snows a few inches accumulates right at the door step. So when the chute is opened in the mornings a small snow wall usually forms. They will come running and immediately followed by a screeching, rear-ending halt as they all stand there and stare at this tiny snow wall. A Few minutes will go by with a bunch of odd clucking noises and my boss hen will take a few steps to 'break the ice'. This is my usual morning with the flock during winter. lol Classic moments I cherish.
