french copper maran, roo or hen?

Hi,

I am trying to decide what to do with this chicken I raised from a chick. I think it could be a roo but I am not sure.

How old is it?

Looks like a hen to me.

15 weeks (ish).

The main reason I am concerned is that I originally had two chicks. This one and a polish. The polish turned out to be a rooster, so I had to rehome him. I also got two more hens so this one wasn't alone. The day after he went, she (or he) started making kinda crowing noises. At first they seemed to be more hen noises, but yesterday it belted out more of a crow, so I am a bit worried. I have been keeping them in the hen house with the door shut until 7am so that it doesn't crow and wake up the neighbours too early (although they have told me that they don't mind!).

Hi I don't know what breed it is but it looks like a rooster to me .
We are in the same boat as you we can't keep a rooster,we have five hens a French maran,australorp,white Cochin,gold Orpington and Japanese bantam and they have full run of the garden.

i would say hen JUST CAUSE


no hackle feathers, and round saddle feathers, and i have seen hens with large combs

how old is it? It looks like a rooster to me... marans hens don't have much for a comb and it looks like those are sadlle feathers starting to come in.... but how old it is would certainly help...

I do know marans, and thats a roo see the dark red at the tail...saddle feathers comming in.

Rooster. Hens wouldn't have the same shine, and the red blotches. You can also see some development of the saddle feathers at this stage.

I agrre, I have lots of fbcm--its a roo for sure, the females only get copper coloring on necks, nowhere else. trust me, i have 6 bcm roosters lol! only 2 hens whaaaah
