That's what shocked me about Paul Smith, the $10 chicks. I ran an ad on CL here for EEs, clearly saying they were EE and not AM, and sold out in 2 days at $7 each. Guess it's supply and demand

You probably could have gotten $10 for them. I don't mind selling out fast. I have been amazed and what I have been able to sell here and for how much. Even roosters in quantity. Sometimes I feel like I underprice, but if I get what I feel is good and fair, then I don't feel compelled to ask for more.

I've only processed twice, and the trachea is my problem area. Is there a trick to getting it out easily?

We had a pro come by once before I got my plucker and he just ran the knife in a circle around it and it seemed to come out easily. It was a filet knife and he inserted it about 3 inches.

Yep. slit the skin at the base of the neck on the wishbone side, sever the head, and pull the trachea back to the new slit. Once detached, it will easily come out when you grab the lungs.

Full crops are the worst. They'll spill out the esophagus, so I tie them off with a bit of string and loosen the esophagus the same way as the trachea, then pull from behind.

Full crops are a pain! We started pulling food 14 hours before harvest. Helps a lot.

I bet there's a special tool for that

That stinks he got his flock wiped out! I'm excited to hear of the better genetics coming into the state.

I've got a few to sell that I've been holding off on listing because I thought they may sell a little better once they are feathered out. I probably should just list them.

When I sold off the BCM pullets, I was very upfront about yellow feet, mixed blood, etc... People didn't care, they just wanted pullets. I got so many calls that I changed the ad from $15 to $20 each for 4 month old birds. Still sold out the first weekend. Had people mad that I wouldn't hold them. Chicks don't always sell so quickly, but any time I advertise pullets, they are gone instantly. I'm going to start charging more, especially with the AMs. I almost feel guilty to raise prices, but the demand is just so much higher than the supply

I have a really important question: some of my chicks have been acting funny, when I let them out in the morning, some of them can't stand up. They just lay kind of on there sides with there feet out. I don't think it's Mareks disease cause once I help them up they can walk on their own without much trouble. What could be causing it?

I don't think they're sunbathing. When they're down the other chicks will step on them and they actually look like they're trying to get up but can't get their legs under them, it's like temporary paralysis of their legs. I'm at a loss, I've tried searching for answers online but I can't find anything like this at all.

Singe them with a torch, or leave them. Makes great floss

When they're down the other chicks will step on them and they actually look like they're trying to get up but can't get their legs under them, it's like temporary paralysis of their legs. That torch like SC said, OR i used a crumpled newspaper lit on fire becuz i dont have a torch, most important is not to heat the skin to where it starts cooking.
