French frogs

You've already had BCM right? Wasn't your Davis line BCM's?

Yes and no. I bought my first straight run batch of Wade Jeane line from a "breeder" in Athens, GA last year, right before joining BYC. I was one of those people that posted pictures of my chicks, waiting to hear everyone tell me how wonderful they were, and got a rude awakening on the BCM thread. The real breeders could tell, even as chicks, that I had a bad batch. As they grew, I started seeing yellow feet in some, the rooster's comb was all wrong, and the hens had way too much color in the hackles. They were mixed with wheaten, and possibly some Penedesenca. If I had not been on BYC, I would have been happy with them, and would have hatched and sold them as BCM. It would have been easier that way, but I'm glad I learned. I found some one year old Davis line hens in the spring, and hoped that maybe they could correct some of the issues with the original flock. I hatched 3 batches of eggs from them, and over half had yellow feet. This was about the same time I picked up the AMs, and the difference in birds from a real breeder was astonishing. I decided to sell the entire BCM mixed flock and focus on the AMs. I've had so much fun learning with them, making my mating choices, etc..., that I decided to order another group of BCM from a real breeder. I can see my farm evolving over the next few years into a 2 breed farm.
Learning about SOP has been a curse and a blessing. I was happy for years with the birds I had, but transitioning into a breeder setup has given me a whole new perspective on chickens. Now I have some of the best birds anywhere in this area, and my sales are really picking up this year.
Sorry for the book

, but that's kind of how my flocks have evolved in the last year
