French frogs

Can you use them?

You don't look it either.

Most definitely. If I hadn't found them for a few more weeks they'd have roots so I'll use that to my advantage.

Is it accurate? Did you have to compensate? Do you use a back up calibrated thermometer/hygrometer? And at lock down is there enough capacity to get the humidity up or did you add sponges?

What did you hatch your silkies in?

It's accurate for temp, I think a couple months ago the hygrometer reading went slightly off... I NEVER trust just one set of thermos/hygros, no matter what bator it is... always have at least 2 or 3 of each in case 1 craps out during a batch...

Once your temp is set though, it has stayed rock solid... I now run mine slightly higher so I adjusted them a few months ago... still staying steady and that's the only temp adjustment I've made since I started using them...

Filling the wells in the tray keeps humidity up for hatching pretty well, but they tend to dry out before 3 days is up... and it made it a bigger pain for cleanup so I switched to small containers covered in wire mesh for humidity control... also I put gripper shelf liner down across the bottom mesh to make hatching cleanup even easier...

I had a thermometer read 158 degrees during my last hatch. Not sure why it ran up like that. About freaked me the flock out!! But the Spot Check and the unit were still on target, so extras are a great idea!

So does this mean twins? ??? One of my duck eggs has 2 black spots that move!!??

I'm going to say No. There were times that I suspected twins in my duck eggs, and turned out not to be. I think they lay a bit differently than chickens. And with the shells being so much more translucent, I think we just see more in them. I think you are seeing head and butt.

Plus those are black ducklings, and have feathers now!

** Disclaimer... I could easily be wrong!

Out of 8 I only had one clear so 7 are growing and doing great!! I have my humidity at 30% and temps running around 100 to 101.

X2

I think you're right, WV... most of my ducks looked similar too, but turns out the 2 spots are attached just hard to see that part...
