French frogs

Days are numbered for this fellow... sadly, I don't have a replacement for him yet...

I hate it when that happens! I'm glad you have a backup plan.

I tell ya, I may give Oz a shot at taming Armand if the little pr*ck doesn't shape up. He's only lucky right now because he's so cute and so little and just being protective of his girls.

Very interesting looking. I like!

There is another way to handle it that I have never seen posted. A friend of mines family had a flock of RIR's when he was young.
The rooster was so d@mn mean the kids would go in pairs to do the chicken duties. One with a trashcan lid and the other to do the chores. One day someone gave his dad a fighting cock as a gift. He said it was a beautiful little bird with a docked comb and the whole 9 yards. Anyway his dad puts this fighting cock into the pen (without spurs of course) and that little fighter went strait for the RIR roo and kicked his but to pieces. He didn't kill the roo he just dominated and broke it. He said that RIR roo was as docile as a hen the rest of it's days. The good news is the fighting cock had no issues with humans and the kids were never bothered again.

True story.

I have a pic of the comb too.

Looks roo to me.

I'm tapped out on bringing birds in, but I have eggs

I'm just not pushing them until I see how Sid's hatch goes. If I ship all the way to Utah and he has a good hatch, it's game on

So glad you got a refund, and so glad McMurray could fill the order so soon. A little delay, but I'll be shocked if you don't get a better shipment from McMurray
The eFowl shipment could have been a fluke. My buddy ordered 50 chicks from McMurray and 47 of them were DOA. It just happens sometimes. I'm not faulting McMurray I think they just get a bad trip sometimes. Are there a lot of unhappy eFowlers?

He is a little better every day. Appointment with the surgeon in the morning (8:20 a.m. for those who will be wondering where I am! LOL) I hope he changes the meds. The antibiotics are making him sick now, and he's not eating enough. But its just a matter of time and patience.

My sister-in-law took those quail this past weekend, so I'll be able to follow up on them. That one is still white, with just a few black patches on its back. She texted me this morning and said one of the males crowed today!

What happened? We're they sick? Did they get lost? He is a reputable breeder. Did they offer to send you out more?
That's just crazy!

They came on time right? So not post office fault.

can't say how long it really took, since the tracking never updated after pickup.......

I guess this is possible, since efowl is just a middle man, and doesn't hatch or ship the birds you order. At least that is my understanding.
they did refund my money, and it was hassle free.

but rather than chance that again, I will only order from a reputable hatchery, or breeder.

sideWing, when did you start to really see the lacing on your SLW's you hatched?

I think within 4 weeks. Maybe started at 3. You can tell when you see any lacing at all since good lacing will be nice and thin right from the start. It can get better with later feathers, but you get a good idea from early on.

Ya know, Big Guy was a lot more docile after his run-ins with Punkin, after we got rid of Punkin. I'd hate to do it on purpose, but I bet I could pen Armand with the Colonel (the top Sebright boy) and Colonel could put some fear into Armand.

I seriously will keep that in mind. Thanks!

Its ok, I promise.

I know my Sebrights are much smaller, but I just looked back at pics, and I can see good lacing within 2 weeks. Of course, larger birds could take longer, and I'm not sideWing, but thought I'd share that anyway, just because you made me curious.
