Farmboy - I have a field mice problem around my coop. Every so often I set a bunch of snap traps baited with peanutbutter and chicken food in an area the chickens can't get to - like behind a board leaning against the side of the run or inside a chicken wire circle.

I do that for a few days to knock the population down,  It helps, but it's not perfect.

I keep cats, lots of hungry cats

I've found D*ck the cat, is useless against the mice pop, but the dogs catch one every once in awhile. I use snap traps, what's important to be remembered w is to put them in areas frequented by the thieves, being mostly blind they travel near walls, close enough to feel it on their wiskers as they travel.

Outdoor cats become coyote food pretty quickly around here, plus my dogs wouldn't allow any cats on the property.

Yes their limited lifespan is fixed by the fact that they reproduce so quickly. Though the dogs would make things much harder. My dogs tolerate the cats well. We have a couple tame ones but most of the cats are feral that just hang around because I feed them a little.

Maybe if my dogs were raised around cats, but not at this point for me. My sister has always had a few barn cats though.

Cats are a definite NO in my household. Hubby hates them!

Also, the egg that Katherine laid today jumped in the bator with the 5 from last night, so am I still clear with 6 not counting?? :gig

And I've got a deal to get Serama eggs!!! I'm stoked!!!!! (thanks to Ravyn for baiting that hook!)
