I watched Metzers you tube video for vent sexing ducklings and then sexed the one extra duckling they sent me.  If I can do it, you can.  

Ya'll have a nice night.  One drink & I'm craving a smoke so better go read in bed to take my mind off a cig.

Vent sexing ducklings is way different than chicks... someone posted a comparison pic somewhere recently for male and female chicks, wish I could remember where it was... much harder to tell the difference and sometimes the breed makes a difference too... ducks either pop out or not, lol...

Good luck on the cig bit... that's the only thing keeping me partially sane... :/

It is the first time that I have this breed and I am one of very few here that have them, please explain " winter face"?

It's similar to our Ameraucana beard/muffs, but it's a smaller patch of fuzziness under their chins and it grows upwards instead of straight out like the Am's...

I think it's from the Quechua or maybe from Huastec blood? My brain just went pfffftt... lol...

If you haven't seen it yet, you may not... I've got it popping up in my bantam Araucanas, trying to breed it out but I gotta argue with the other half that likes to keep 'that one' cuz it's 'pretty'... :/

I'll see if I can get you pics of one and an Ameraucana to show you the difference... I spend a lot of time arguing with people about 'pure' versus faults that can crop up... my birds need a lot of work and I make no bones about that, but it's irritating to keep having to deal with people who want absolute Show Quality out of every single chick...

It's depend on whay you have them, if it is only for fun don't give a **** on what people say, but if you want to sell them you should try to have the best breeding birds you can, as close as to the APA SOP. It will maximize your profet/ investment ratio!

Probably you won't, but there is never a guarantee about recessive traits cropping up... especially in a small genetic pool... I looked through my pics, but don't have a good winter face pic, will have to get one...

Benny, I absolutely agree... and I have made huge improvement in my Araucana bantams... I was talking about how quick some are to condemn a bird to trash just cuz it is not 'perfect'...

I do not have a mother in law (well I do but she is a Step mother in law, married after DH was grown, and it is not at all the same thing). I never got to meet her, so I have no idea what my opinion would have been. We usually go to the Zoo for my Mothers day and try to meet up with my mom on the holiday. It works well. For Fathers Day we let DH and Dad go fishing, which is exactly what they want to do.

I think a lot of moms end up in the zoo on mother's day. . .

Dad quit cold turkey when mom became pregnant with me using sunflower seeds. He is a bit addicted to sunflower seeds now, but figures that is minor.

Iquit after 15 years chain smoking... People don't do that these days... Too expensive.... I quit before I was thirty..... Three packs a day.... Glad I did a few years later I got asthma would have really sucked if I had still smoked.

My dad chain smoked his entire life. Wish he would have taken on sunflower seeds instead.
