French frogs

Mrs. Oz has been freezing jugs of water and putting them in our large brooder with a small fan blowing across it to keep our young ones cool. So if you've got a brick house you gotta have a brick coop?

It gets that hot in SC ? Them people out there are crazy with rules OZ the air is thin and in winter the smog was bad when I was there. HMO's Make having any kind of animal hard across the country .

I could never live in a subdivision .

Every year I say I' going to start earlier and never make it . I just planted beans and am going to try for late squash and corn . The storms stopped me from planting yesterday .It's time to hit all the stores looking for annuals that are left over and on sale . Turned on the irrigation in the small garden a couple days ago and then the storms come . Works every time .

. I find you can plant many things late if you have ample water . They will grow till the first frost . Ate my first squash out of the garden last night it was so good . Waiting on cherry tomatoes to ripen now .Almost can't wait .

I wish I had planted my squash about a month earlier than I did.

Nice thing is that the air is so dry here, the evaporation from the wet leaf litter in the run cools the air as it evaporates. We don't even have a regular AC at our house, just a swamp (evaporative) cooler.

. there is so much dew in the mornings it looks it rained during the night.

It got up to 103 today, and then out of zero chance it rained a quarter of an inch...cooled everything off and knocked down the dust. We finally broke down and put up the AC this noon, we hate to do it before July (I dislike the AC) but heat was zapping everyone. Oh well we are all much cooler.

Wow. I am still using a heat lamp (with a thermostat set to 26.5C) in the brooder. It runs about a 20% duty cycle during the day, and 40% most nights.

We break 100 F a couple times a year but stay in the mid to upper nineties. Our problem is the humidity is about the same as our temps so it's literally suffocating outside somedays.
