French frogs

What are you breeding? I am not impressed with the Cornish cross, they are lazy stupid birds. So am looking at the jersey giant and red (something) and the cornish. Thought I would get 10 of each and see what I like.
I'm crossing some dark cornish roosters with a mixed flock of duel purpose, heavier birds. I have white rock, australorp, silver laced wyandottes, and some delawares.

I like wyandottes and Delawares :thumbsup

Thanks I will add them to my list to look at. I figure if I raise 50 birds this summer that is about one chicken a week, might go with 60 to help with losses.

My sister had wyandottes. (Probably still would if the neighbors dog hadn't killed them

) They were the first to lay (She also has Speckled Sussex) They laid the most eggs consistently

are you going to stagger your groups, or raise all 50-60 at once?

Probably stagger start in April/May and I could run until October. DH said I could use the back field, about 20 acres, to pasture them. But I will need a tractor.

I feel for her, just lost another hen today to the neighbor's fricken dog. I am tempted to shoot the thing.
