I went to public school and a private university.  That's probably why I just barely tolerate the above-mentioned 40 year old........:gig

I went to public school, but have a severely dysfunctional family and deep understanding for the social outcasts... I understand way too much on all levels... except intentional cruelty...

Silly birds on top again. What is up with this??

I think homeschooling severely stunts social development. Sorry BR....
Maybe that's why you like hanging out with a 40-year-old man with multiple personality disorder :gig

I think it can be done right. It requires a lot of extra work on the parents part, taking them to sports, social activities. I have talked to many people who have been homeschooled (I might end up doing it if they consolidate again) They all agree it was a great life.
I have met the socially awkward kids too, I do know what you mean. I just think it isn't so cut and dry as you think.

I've also seen kids who grew up in homeschool or private schools end up less tolerant of people different than them. When you are exposed early to people of different colors, ethnicities, religions, etc, you are often a more tolerant adult.

ETA: I agree with OFW, it can be done right if the parents are conscientious about it.

Looks like you need a sharply angled screen to keep them off the top. Looks like a great place to roost - since they often go for the highest spot they can.

Yea it looks like I will have to block them off of it, at least for the time being.
I've got some mesh I can hang up there. Thank ya!

I agree with all of the above, and it totally depends on the parents. Admittedly, I have zero personal experience, I don't even have kids. It just seems that many I have met seem like the real world will eat them alive. My addicted, dysfunctional family helped turn me into what I am today, good and bad. I just think I'd rather be bitter than naive :gig

Where you grow up makes a difference too. There was no culture, no diversity of ethnicity or race, no social integration in the town I grew up in. There were few chances to expand our horizons until we got cars of our own.

I believe that, too. We had a pretty diverse ethnicity in my school. Sure there are plenty of racists here, but that's not just a southern thing.

Now, I'm not condoning bullying... but I am so sick of seeing the PSAs about it. People bullied the crap out of me. I was the poor white kid living near poor blacks and rich whites. I'm not complaining, it showed me the good and bad of both sides. A little social turmoil can help prepare you for the real world, work politics, shady salesmen, etc...
I'm sure that they are much more caring, liberal, and sweet kids, but a certain amount of cynicism helps
