Here's a new phrase I learned today, "Panspermia".

I don't think you can say that on this forum.

Yes, that's when you fry fertile eggsLol, no you just have to stay away from roo talk. Care to venture what the theory of Panspermia is?

We've been blessed with a few broody hens. In my experience, I can tell you to be prepared for the unexpected. We had one quit-totally- after the eggs were 17 days old. Had one eating the eggs, but later learned that she knows which ones are good & which ones are not. Had one sitting on the nest and an egg exploded under her. It was in the last week, so the gunk got all over the other eggs, and although I wiped them off, none made it.
The room sounds like a plan. Some broodies are so devoted that I have had to remove her from the nest during feed time. She will poop (GIANT), drink, eat quickly and hurry back to the nest. Broodies are an absolute beautiful thing in nature to watch. Maybe I am a protective farmer, but I do isolate mine. I have a broody box. Make sure she is eating and drinking. Some will drain all their energy & it can hurt/ kill her.
Not letting my RIR hatch out any. Just happy that she is keeping them from freezing with the freezing temps. Good luck with yours. Keep us posted.

I'm Monday but thinking they'll probably start Saturday or Sunday. How many are you anticipating locking down around?
Ha! What a little cutie! How many more eggs to go?
Did you make a thread awhile back about the egg exploding? I remember reading a thread and the exact same thing happened. It's a shame it ruined the eggs. To be honest, I was not planning on separating a broody if i got one. I thought it would be easier to just keep them in the nest box in the coop, since no one stays in there during the day (except to lay) anyway. But with these temps, there's no way I could keep her out. Plus, this one hasn't even learned to use the nest box yet anyway. So I guess I will keep her downstairs. I have 4 eggs I would be interested in hatching. So I could just give her the 4. Now, should I leave her down there alone, with no other chickens?
