French frogs

I think he might be trying to take the Colonel's place!

Hopefully by next week though, it will just be the two of them left to battle each other. I'm planning to get the OEGBs out of there. (they have 5 new "older" ladies coming!)

I saw the pics of the quail. I can't believe how fast they have grown!

I have decided that the SLW juvies that I have that I thought were partially laced are actually cockerels. SLW cockerels often have black hackles when young. I also looked at their combs and wattles and concluded they are cockerels.

I don't think Cogburn has given the LW's any attention yet. I'm taking his bea out for the weekend to see if he can get to know the other ladies.

The good news is I have some nice Foley chicks to raise and choose from. I did not like only having two alive. It made them high priority targets for predators and sickness.
bud, I just noticed you pic about sexing SLW's by tail feathers........is it accurate?

I specifically ordered 15 pullets, and 5 roos, but I would like to confirm what I have...........

as well to be able to tell when I start hatching my eggs.

It has been 100% accurate with the SLW I have had. It only works for me if I have a group to compare to though. They say not all SLW have the slow feathering gene, but every one I have had has had it.

I was wondering about that, but I don't have practical knowledge of laced really... had a few Barnevelders and the cockerels came out with those almost unlaced look, but I didn't know if that was a laced thing or a breed thing...

I agree on the nervousness of only having 1 pair of something top quality... I am frantically trying to get some of my Snowy Call eggs to hatch... :/

Sebright momas? You getting serious ? When are the Armand barred Cochin chicks due?

No, older OEGB's. I only currently have 2 boys, one girl, so I'm getting 5 more girls. Then the Sebrights can be by themselves.

They are still very tiny, but feathering quickly! 3 weeks old this weekend.

So if you've figured out some of those juvies are male, do you have some females too, or are the ALL male?

Haybale down!!!

Awesome! I must have missed that you had one in range.

Well done! Did you use the youth model 20 gauge to pitch it?
Ten four. Forked it good

first time I've seen it. Chickens have been acting jittery, and Haybale didn't know I was off today

Absolutely! I just want to hatch out a dozen or so more and I would be glad to.

I'm considering giving a pair to my friend just to have them in two locations. I'm a bit paranoid.

I'm getting a really good ratio of pullets. I think I have 5 pullets 3 cockerels and 1 unknown because it's tiny and I don't have anything to compare it too. But I'm guessing it's a cockerel from how slow his feathers are coming in.
