The blue rooster I still have is the one in my avatar
SC, have you at least given him a chance during some warm weather? My chicken knowledge is very limited. Am I wrong thinking they often need some real warmth to get going?
Nice! Looks like you had a great hatch with a lot of different colorsThat's a bummer!I know a breeder who uses one parent with a little leakage to improve her blacks. She says it can help had sheen to the blacks. That's another breed though and I can't remember if you've got a black hen.![]()
On a positive note! D and D Farm's EE CHICKS ARE SO SMART! They skipped grade school and went straight to High Scool!

It's been in the mid 70s for two weeks, and his brother has been 90+% since February...
Johnny has had a couple of 25% batches, but the last 2 are zero. He's getting worse, not better
The consensus on the AM thread is to not use the blue and breed the splash for a replacement blue for next year. That means it will be at least a year before I possibly have a good black breeding cockerel, but at least I would know I'm not breeding the leakage forward. I'm thinking move all the hens to Jack, sell Johnny, and put the new BCM in that pen for now. They are ready to move outsideETA - My line of thinking was if you considered giving him 6 more months, then maybe he has some potential, but if you feel sure he can't do the job, then its all moot.
Seriously, what will you do with him?
