Not good. But there were other factors. Some dummy (me) didn't realize that the plastic incubator was supposed to sit in Styrofoam piece that was used to pack it to insulate it better. This time, it seems to be holding a lot more steady. I also ended up raising the temperature almost one degree Celsius on the unit to get 3 of the 4 thermometers used to fall within the 99.5 - 100 degree F range. And I have added no water, and humidity has been around 40%, Which is close to what the ambient humidity has been around here lately. So I'm crossing my fingers for a better hatch.

I've been running dry for the first 18 days in both incubators for the last 6 weeks, and the air cells have looked much better. The hatches are more on time, too. Dry for me=28-30%

Well the Barnie eggs are looking crummy. Only 9 with somewhat normal air cells and 10 which were probably late quitters or they will quit soon.

Left them all in though, and put the iffy ones in cut down carton rings to hold the air cells up. Not sure it makes much difference at this point but worth a try.

So my wife has been stressing about how many chickens we have, (and we only have about 30.) Due to zoning laws, we are allowed up to 50 on our lot. But she was worried about how many chickens we had and what we'd do with all the eggs. 

We've sold some, and although it is nice to cover the cost of feed, it is a bit of a pain to put up with people until you build up a regular clientele base. Anyways, I ended up contacting the local food pantry and it turns out they are very happy to have any excess eggs over what I can sell. So now I've got the green light to get more chickens!

I'd rather give the LOs to the local pantry, than to the gals at work. I'll look into that too.

Fertility wasn't been the greatest early this spring, but I think it was from a few new layers. Each set has been improving, so I will sample another bunch and see how they are now. I dont plan to set any more soon, so if anyone wants any, just let me know.

I've been turning the eggs around 1/4 turn each night to have a different part of the egg tipping forward. Thoughts?

Did you check the arm on the turner? It should stop at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions. Mine would occasionally stop at 12 and 6 positions. You have to let it run, and turn it off in the correct position to reset it, and get it back on track. Check it out and see if that's the problem.

No it isn't they should not be doing that they should go to the tilted position and stay there . the turner motor must be bad . Is it under warranty? If so send it back or get a new turner motor . Incubator warehouse sells them . or EBAY .

. I thought you had the same Incubator as FarmBoy . and you should take a light and check the fit from lid to base on the FI you have . mine had big air gaps in them so I put some gaskets on them to seal the holes . I found this stuff when I was working on the GQF and made my gaskets out of it .Its super sticky on one side and I bet your DH has access to some . I just had to take a straight edge and sharp Stanley knife and cut it in half in. strips .for the door gasket I doubled it

Well, at least the owner of the eggs and I had a good talk about all the risks of both shipped eggs and ordering from a low altitude before I even agreed to try. I really don't think I could have done anything differently along the way.

Hummmmmm.... I guess eventually my bator won't be running full tilt for months on end
