How well do Buff Orpingtons lay?
Did you mean 240? I've raised Buff Orpingtons for years (from a number of different sources) and there is no way that they can lay 340 eggs per year, which is almost at world record levels. The only breeds (or hybrids) that have ever reached that many eggs in a year are White Leghorns, Black and Red Sex Links, and a few Black Australorps (back in the 1920s). My Buff Orpingtons typically lay 3-4 eggs per week over about 200 or so a year.buffs can lay up to 340 eggs per year compared to the smaller breeds laying about 220
I meant to say, "or about 200 or so a year." Sorry for the typo.over about 200 or so a year.
The breed in my flock that is friendliest towards people is diffidently the Speckled Sussex.
Our two easter Eggers are by far the sweetest birds.. Our girl Gaja will even fly to our arms.
What is an easter-egger?
There is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/09/ameraucana-easter-egger-or-araucana.html explaining the difference between Easter Eggers, Araucanas, and Ameraucanas. Because EEs are bred using different brown egg laying breeds, there temperament can be quite variable, however mine have usually been docile. Not many of my EEs liked being handled, but they've tolerated it.What is an easter-egger?
