Laree I have lost 100 pounds in the past 18 months and in a nutshell here is what I've learned.
Anything that elevates your blood sugar, whether it's fresh fruit or high fructose corn syrup, will cause your body to store fat. If you keep your blood sugar more level, by eating low glycemic foods, your body will burn fat. If you consume TOO FEW calories your body will go into starvation mode and not release any of your stored fat.
To loose weight eat green veggies, the brighter colors have more natural sugars, you can have those AFTER you get to your goal weight. Green means green, cucumbers asparagus, pickles, spinach, romain, green peppers, edemame, green beans, celery, get creative.
Lean meats: white meat chicken or turkey, eggs, lean cuts of beef or pork (well trimmed) a portion is about the size of your palm.
Skip the fruits, breads, startches, for now... you can add those back in when you get to goal.
Fat Free milk, low fat cheese (a serving of cheese is 2 AA batteries)
You need oil for gall bladder health but 2 Tablespoons is plenty. If you cook with it don't add it via salad dressings. If you don't use any to cook with you can eat some olives, an avacado or use a bit of salad dressing.
Water, Water, Water!!!! Don't forget your water. If you eat breakfast within 1/2 hour of getting out of bed you will use more calories all day long. And your brain will work better too.
Now I'm running off at the fingers....
