Ugly little hairless closed eye lumps that are so cute.

True. I'm actually more looking forward to them in about 3 weeks when they're teeny little fluffballs and the kids can play with them.

Belle,
I was wondering how many chicks you ended up with and what colors...
I ended up letting the girls keep a bunch of eggs and now there are about
15 babies, maybe more, in their coop.
They range in color from almost solid black to all yellow fluff.
I remember when I ordered the eggs for the parents that the guy said they have a
25% chance of having Golden Barred babies.
Do you think that's why some are yellow?
Either way I LOVE EM

I was really hoping you could tell me what to expect from this group, so I'm so glad you're on! They're the healthiest and hardiest little batch of babies! I got a total of 14 babies hatch. The last 2 were shrink-wrapped in their shell and I had to peel them out (no blood veins were left, yolk completely absorbed) and one of the shrink-wrapped babies died the next day, but that was my only loss.

I had a total of 6 black one (one of these was the one that died). Now that the're a little older, some of them have some subtle barring coming in on the wing feathers, so I'm assuming those are my barred cochins.

5 Blue - they're coming in a nice solid blue. A few look like they have Silkie feathering. (Was pure Silkie even a possiblity?

3 oddballs. The white Silkie looking one is coming in with Silkie feathers. The other 2 are the Seabright crosses (I think). I thought the little brown one had wry neck, but it seemed to right itself on it's own.

This little black one is the only chick I had hatch out of my own Serama eggs. I took a pic of him next to the white Silkie-looking bantam just cause he's so tiny!

Edited because I can't count the chicks in my own pictures.

I'd say the first group is mostly Cochin,
Second I think are the Blue Silkie & Cochin crosses. Notice the white on the toes.
Third Is correct with the Sebright crosses and a White Silkie.
Yes, pure Silkie was a possibility. Remember when I asked if you wanted any other eggs
and you said yeah to anything "bantam sized"?

I'm so glad you got healthy babies

We went back and forth so many times on what you had and what I wanted, I'd forgotten completely what my possibilites were other than the cochin and cochin/Silkie crosses.

They're all perfect for my broody flock!

I love all these little ones - they're so spunky! My husband hates brooding chicks in the house, so I rigged up an outdoor brooder for them - they're in a large rabbit cage covered with cardboard to keep the drafts out and they have a heat lamp of course. I was worried about them - they basically went from the incubator to the great outdoors and I was SO worried about them, but they're hardy little things! I only lost that one little shrink-wrapped one and that's not unexpected.

I can't wait to see what they look like as they grow. I just love them!

I'm so glad you're happy with them and they are healthy.
I found one baby (looked silkie) in the bottom of the coop
when "the great birth spasm" (as my kids call it) started.
I think that one was my fault because I miscounted the days til they were due
and there was no water or food in there.

I have to agree with your husband about brooding them outdoors...
I much prefer the momma hens doing all the work, I hate to come home from
work and the house smells like chicken butt.

Congratulations Belle! How exciting!
Chickencoop, that's sweet how all your mama's work together like that!
When I was preggie with my 3rd, I was able to keep it to myself until the 4th month, almost 5.
Great pics maggie! Ranger is funny!
Awww, baby bunnies. What kind of bunnies do you have, again?
