Does he have any brothers? My SO said I should just get rid of my chickens when I move and get new ones at the new house. Sigh.

Why yes! As a matter of fact he does. He's single and he's the one in charge of planning the move of the existing coop.

WOW! Eggsellent coop. I know what you mean about never seeing the sun. I have pictures of sunny days on my computer to remind me what it looks like

I was just informed I need to start thinking about what I would like in a "real" coop. Seems the fiance isn't impressed with my storage shed conversion and wants to build me a real coop at the new house with room to seperate turkeys from chickens and breeding pens too. He's even thinking of a water storage tank that I can fill weekly so that I don't have to haul water every day.

So Rich, what do you know about compost?

Hi Michelle. long time no chat.
Thanks all for the kind words about the coop.
The wind coming across the warm waters of lake michigan create a perma-cloud directly over my house. At least that is what I tell myself as I would hate to think that even God wants to keep me in the dark.

Funny you should ask about compost. I just finished updating my page with photos of the compost bins I put in this summer. take a peek. I would love to have some feedback.
Hope your fiance knows what he is getting into. You'd better get him started before he has a chance to change his mind. That little coop I built cost over 1000 bucks by the time I was finished and prices have risen a good deal since I purchased most of the materials last winter.
Next project will be to add an enclosed lean to onto the shed for wood storage and a wood stove to heat the shed.

Very informative and timely too. I think your climates are similar to mine, I will have to go and google to check on that but I seem to get enough heat with the chicken litter. The new place is 5 acres so I will have more than a few grass clippings, I probably have to get more chickens so I have enough used litter to mix with them
