It's tough when you get attached to a roo, especially a cool roo. I understand your frustration. Really, I do. (why can I hear people laughing?)
You could always get him a few more girls to thin out the back damage.

I had to make an early morning run to another town. Such a pretty day.

He has 7 gals and I only ever see him with the same 3 (who suffer the bare back). I check fertility and I'm pretty sure he's not missing any, but still.
And two weeks ago I found one hen that got a little scratch. It was better the next day but I'm pretty sure it's time to do something.
