Friends Welcome

If it's still low when you get home, add steaming water to the try so the humidity bumps up to recover after opening to add water. Personally i use a clean baster so I can aim it, but either will work.

Won't I hurt them by opening it???

The issue with opening it is loss of humidity. By using steam, you're upping the humidity (like a hot shower to get rid of a stuffy nose). Note not boiling, just slightly steamy like you'd use to make warm tea. 2 mins microwaved in a coffee cup does it here. Opening it and adding cold water hurts, hot steamy water will bump it up safely without losing too much heat, humidity.
