i am thinking i have a purebred , the breeder him self said that he does not bring in new blood , so that is why i think there is white in him , IDK

I would listen to the person you got the bird from.
I know there are some people (especially on BYC) who think they know all and no one can tell them different.
Like Saddina said, there are some stipulations for SHOW birds...
That doesn't mean they all must fit that set of standards to be pure bred animals...

Saddina, I just reread my post... I wasn't meaning you when I said some people think they know all... I mean there are others in other threads who like to pick apart people's pics of their animals.

Oh not at all. I know some people do take it quite seriously, but since showing isn't why I do chickens it seems a lil silly to me. All I ask is pretty eggs and plenty for omlettes.

I agree... I have mostly mixed breeds right now except for my silkies and bantam cochins and a couple others.
I have only bought my silkies from a hatchery and was told they are pretty by some and others have to comment on their toes and poofs and other stupid stuff... I never said I was raising show quality or anything and they insisted on picking each pic apart.

I have seen the same thing on other threads and especially on certain breeds.
I love my little mutts as much as my pure breeds...

Well there's a quide that Nikki wrote, i'll dig up the link it's a good starting point. There's no books on quail like there is on chickens, so you have to gather info as best you can.

On the pratcial side, they are tiny chicks, and tiny birds, most are a 1/2LB size. They reek worse than any other animal I know, so they are an outside bird. Unless you are raising them as a gourmet treat (they do taste fab, I have recipies), it's best to just keep a colony for tiny eggs. I keep mine in a harem for 4-5 hens per roo. Do not attempt to keep males together, bloodletting will result, they are crazy vicious. Most birds can be feather sexed, which helps.
