Friends Welcome

I guess so. I usually see them belly up on the road.

Gosh, I'm frustrated. A friend informed that she'd like to do something for lunch so I go to pick her up. I wait for half an hour and call her three times to no avail. She seems to have off and disappeared after confirming my picking her up not an hour before! So there goes half my lunch break. I'm starving. *Sigh* We must have gotten our wires crossed or something, but still...

To this day I will get out of my truck and put a Lone Star bottle in its paws out of respect when I see a dead un. I've been on the wagon for a little while now. I guess I ought to clean that pickup bed out, huh?

I saw 3 today, but all that's in the house is Shiner.
I've also seen two bobcats this week. Just got home and nearly ran one over... Nasty little critturs of all kinds are coming awake with the cooler nights.

I think it would be fun to do a cattle drive. Of course, I wouldn't have a clue what you're suppose to do.
I don't even think I've ever been to a working cattle ranch, to me it seems like that would be the good life.

Hope you are ok from your fall, Sassy. I remember once, when I had my first horse, and I was riding her down the road, and she saw a cow for the first time, in the pasture we were riding by, she was 'Whoa, what is that?!!' And spun and started running the other way. My friend was on the back of me, we both hung on, and started busting up laughing, it really was hilarious.

Glad to see you back Tex.

Now, I gotta go look at chicken benches.

Good morning boo!

The old ranch I used to ride at let kids 'help' us on cattle drives. Basically, we gave them trail horses and they rode in a 'V' shape with the cows in the middle. It was my job to catch the cows that got out and put back in the V. The kids love it and are none the wiser they're basically on a trail ride and 2 people could have done the same work in less time.
My friend has over 2000 head of cattle in the DFW area and I help him do his cattle drives sometimes. They're fun, but rather dangerous, which is why I never made a summer job of it.

It's my dream to live on a ranch some day. With cows and goats and chickens and horses. On that note, today I'm going to go look at 40 acres (yes, Sassy, it has a horse barn) if my schedule allows it. I won't be buying it, it's the wrong time. But a girl can look, can't she?
I think this is one of the only times I've ever had use for this smiley:

Life is good, y'all!

Good morning Maggie!

Oh what fun to go look at a ranch.

I used to love to just ride my horse all day. When I was a kid. I could ride for miles and miles.
Used to ride my horse 15 miles into town. And the 6 miles to the beach. And just all over the hills around here.
Now there are houses, and traffic, and bigger highways.
I have just under an acre, and a small track to ride around. I can go up and down the hill to the neighbors and back, but the trail to the valley is extremely overgrown, and I'd need something to cut my way through the manzanita.
And I've been told you can't ride in the valley anymore, some sort of preservation thing now or something.
Just like you can't ride your horse through the dunes at the beach anymore, it is now nesting area for the snowy plowers.
There is a trail to ride on to get to the beach that goes through the dunes a bit though, but it used to be a blast running your horse up and down the dunes.
Now if I want to ride on the beach, I have to trailer my pony there, and I need a vehicle to do that with!
Sometimes DH takes me to the beach, but his vehicle isn't really big enough to be hauling trailer, but its ok for going the flat 6 miles to the beach and back.
I really should learn how to haul a horse trailer.
I hauled my car once on a car trailer, and I've hauled the tiny trailer to the dump, and the motorcycles one time, but thats all the extent of my hauling, and not one of those times did I have to back up!
I know, I could learn, just need the opportunity.

Ah well, the acreage was okay. They're down from 1.4 mil to .9 because they really want to sell. The horse barn was really more of a shelter with stalls. Not the actual barn I'm looking for. The house was nice, really big, but just not what I've always dreamed about. *Sigh* The dreams lives on...

I just put my shoes on. Well I had on shoes, but not the kind to play with pony with, so I am going outside to catch pony and play with him. Maybe I'll even get the saddle on and ride around my track.
Someday my pony will get to like and trust me better, and come to me when I go to corral, rather than run away up the hill.
He has stopped running out of the stall now while he is eating and I go in there. I can walk up to him and pet him, and he doesn't run away, that is a very good start!!
Oh, and if I take a treat out when I have halter in hand, he usually does not run up the hill, and I can put rope around neck and halter him just fine.
Once I get halter around his neck he is fine with haltering and saddling and all that, its just the first initial, I'm going to catch you he runs from.
I miss the days when I had a horse that was so happy to see and loved to go riding, all I would have to do is approach the gate and she'd come running and put her head in headstall herself.
I will have that again with my pony, I will.!!

Keep that dream alive Maggie!
Sassy, I loved the days riding my horse to the store for my mom. And yes, I can carry a gallon of milk on my horse, mom, no problem!!

My trainer used to raise Arabians. The ones I see now are in their 20's and 30's, but they're still gorgeous. Just got to watch them, they're high energy horses.

Best of luck, boo! I always bring a treat to my horse when I get him and let him loose. That way he's always excited to see me (Sigh... The wonders of a food motivated horse). But he doesn't get the treat if he doesn't meet me halfway or at the gate. You'll get Pony there, I'm sure of it.

Anyone seen Michelle or Saddi? I know Saddi wasn't in the best spot when we last talked and I'm worried about her.

And boo, the dream shall never die!
