Frightful's been at it again! New COOL sighting, post 191

Yeah, I hope the parents found it, too. And I'll have no way of knowing, since it could be in the tree if they DID find it, or gone even if they didn't. But I'm going to go by and make sure it's not on the ground. Being on the ground is bad, since Mom & Dad won't tend it on the ground.

Not only busy with Romeo, but the skies have been very overcast, and I've seen nothing big in the air but buzzards. No buzzards around Frightful's 'home zone' though! So I think that means something is making the buzzards stay away.

My daughter posted this on Facebook a few minutes ago. She wasn't feeling well this morning, so she stayed home. But I made her clean the guinea pig cage this afternoon because it was getting yucky...

CJ "just cleaned out the cavy cage. While I was dumping it out there was a red tailed hawk sitting on the chicken coop!! It stared right at me for at least three minutes! I felt like some one was looking right through me! Finaly, another hawk flew over head and the first one left to join it. I was so happy to see them! It makes me hope it was Frightful and that maybe she could tell it was me looking back at her."

I am so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I'm sure the chickens were NOT amused and I may not get any eggs for a couple of days. But the runs are completely made of hardware cloth and the peeps only free-range when I'm out there with them. So we're good, as long as Frightful doesn't sit there and drool over them EVERY day.

There's just NO doubt that it's her. The raptor center confirmed that her strong flight from my deck meant that she was definitely at home and knew the area well.

So the other hawk is Romeo

Yesterday as I drove home from work I saw a big Red-Tail in the sky. I was on the same stretch of road where I found Frightful, so I'm figuring it was her. It was nice!

A little while ago I got a call on a raptor potentially in trouble. Injured wing, but it still made it into a tree. I told the guy to keep an eye on it, and call me if/when it's 'grounded'. I figure if it can fly well enough to escape then it may be able to hunt. And if not, it will quickly lose energy for flight like Frightful did.
This chick doesn't climb trees...

It's NOT a Red-Tail, and the guy told me about a pair of Red-Tails he sees frequently. Going to ask him a few more questions about that the next time I talk to him: He's close enough to be observing Frightful or her nearest neighbors. I want to figure out which!

I'm so glad...

Have seen Romeo a couple of times. Have not seen Frightful, but am hoping that's because she's on a nest?

Yesterday there was a pile of feathers along the woods in the backyard. Some poor robin bit the dust. Having watched a hawk clean a bird, I have no doubt that's what ate the robin. Just don't know WHO ate the robin....

Hope so... i know here a couple weeks ago the local pair would hunt together, now its just the single one... feel sorry for the prey, but they are so gorgeous in flight! we have one go through every afternoon, so i know when to have everyone locked up..
