Frizzle Genetics Question!

This is a Frizzled Silkie, and is the result of an F2 Sizzle to a Silkie Roo. Not a very pretty boy, bless his heart.

I was unsure the effect the modifier would have in the Sizzle to Sizzle breeding. I too had read in information provided by the National Frizzle Club of American that the best Frizzles come from the Hetro birds in a Frizzle to Frizzle mating. I will get photos of the little one and show the comparison with my Frizzled Cochin (smooth to frizzle) and the Sizzle to Sizzle cross. I did not expect the chick to have straighter curls than either parent. I have only gotten birds with less tight curls from F4 Sizzles to Silkie. It would seem the Modifying gene is going to be difficult to predict outcome.

Well, I myself have been breeding frizzles for over 10 years. If you breed two frizzles together you will not get 100% curlies. You will get a few birds that have decent frizzled feathers. If you choose to do this only breed those birds over a smooth feathered bird. Preferably one carrying the frizzle gene, as it will make the offspring of this mating have better frizzles. The feathers will be wider, tighter to the body, as well as giving the bird the proper "poof" that it needs. If your just breeding them to have them then it really wont matter, but I bred them for show so I took great pride in what my birds looked like. I hope that helps you out, I had to write this while going out the door being late. If you need anything feel free to ask away.

Would anyone happen to have an example of a frazzle? I think I have some. I got a bunch from MM and there are a few with just beautiful fluffy feathers and some, the poor little things don't look so good!

Thanks Casey, that is what I was thinking. I am working on frizzled Seramas. I am on my 4th mating back to purebred Seramas.
