Frizzle or Sizzle?????

Sizzles are cochins and silkes crossed. Or thats how you start out. You breed a silkie and a frizzled cochin. A "good" sizzle is a bird with all the silkie traits, Silkie comb, black skin, 5 toes but with cochin feathers, either smooth or frizzled. I agree this needs to be a sticky

if i remember this right from the other thread about the differences. if you are trying to get a Sizzle or a sizzle you will need a silkie and a frizzled cochin.

when you breed the silkie to a frizzled cochin you will get offspring that will have curled normal feathers (large 'S' Sizzle) and straight normal feathers (small 's' sizzle)

a frizzle to a frizzle can create brittle feathered frizzles and is undesirable.

a silkie with curled silkie type feathers is a frilkie. (my Fozzie has them.)

It's my understanding that you dont ' breed a Frizzled w/ a Frizzled cause that can cause genetic chick problems. I ordered Red Friz bantams. (thought they would be standards) and got 2friz and 2nonfriz . You have to breed a friz to a non friz carring the gene for friz I think. Anyhow I expect to get rid of them. I don't really have the proper set for them. While they were ok w/ the big girls they weren't w/ the big roos. It's not a pretty sight seeing the big roo try to dance w/ a screaming bantam hen.

My silkie laid her first egg yesterday! She's in the pen with the frizzled cochin so I hope it's fertile (He's been trying)!! We will see cause it's going in the incubator!!! I'll try to add some pictures!

I am neither advocating for or against pairing frizzled birds together. I do recommend that one do sufficient research to make their own choice based upon their set-up, goals and available birds.

CES, now I see what you meant; I understood it differently--a sizzle is a crossbred bird--a silkie crossed to another breed to bring in the frizzled gene. And I took the "purebred" to mean a frizzled bird crossed with another of the same breed. I didn't necessarily attribute it to mean frizzle bred to frizzle, but I do see how it does say that (probably more so than the connotation I applied).

Curly is the term that has been applied to double-dose frizzled birds for many years. I do NOT use the term "frazzle" as I have never seen it applied until very recently, and ONLY on BYC.

Sizzle= a silkie with frizzled feathers

Frizzle= any breed other than the silkie breed that has the frizzled feathers.

If you have a cochin with frizzled feathers it is called a Frizzled Cochin.

Polish with frizzleing= Frizzled Polish

Serama with frizzleing feathers= Frizzled Serama

and so on.

So far that i know of in the APA the only breed reconizeble for frizzle is the Frizzled Cochin.
A lot of breeders are trying to get the Sizzle reconized in the APA.
