I picked up these chicks yesterday. I meant to get three. In any case... I have a bunch of new birds. The woman I got them from had beautiful frizzles, sizzles, and silkies, and I think I saw a few SLW too? Not sure all what else was there, but was hearing these called frizzles and/or sizzles? I intended to walk away with just three or so (at least, that's what I told the BF before we went, but really I did mean to stick to it!) and kind of lost track of what she was saying about them as we went. There's a couple I suspect are pullets but really I'm new at this and would love to know what you guys think in terms of breed, sex, and color.

In any case, I'm thrilled. The farm they came from was clean and beautiful, her chickens impeccably cared for, and these little ones are so much more friendly and personable than what I have gotten from the feed store.

Here's an update on #3, who I'm guessing is a cockerel, but am wanting your opinions.

Is this chicken part Silkie? What will he produce when bred with others that look like him, both in terms of feather type and color? What about EEs? I know not knowing much re: his genotype/what his parents looked like, it's hard to say, but I know usually there's some guess to be made about things he can produce and things he definitely cannot produce.

Quick update on two of these guys. Would love to know what this color is called/what it is/what sorts of color(s) they might be able to produce. I'm thinking #2 is a cockerel and #8 is a pullet, but not sure...

Also, they look like they have some Silkie heritage, which would line up with what their breeder had said. Does that mean I could get some offspring with silkie feathers if bred with a silkie?

All but 5, 7, 9, and 11 look to be Silkie crosses. The others are likely Cochins. Some are smooth and some are frizzled. None are Sizzles.
Beautiful satins/sizzles!

Okay, I’m a newbie, and I’m confused! Someone help me out as to what these things are and what the difference is? It seems like when I’ve tried to read up on sizzle vs frizzle vs satin, etc, not all the sources even seem to agree with each other.

Satin is the proper name for Sizzle. They mean the same thing. Satins are half silkie and half cochin. Satins can be smooth or frizzled. I'm not an expert. I'm basing this information on what I've been told by other breeders.

I'm not sure what your pink skinned birds are.

Satins are smooth Silkies, all the typical Silkie traits but rather than having silkie "hair like" feathers they are "normal" feathered.

Frizzles are not a breed. Frizzle is a feather trait that can happen in any breed.

Sizzles are frizzled Silkies. They have the silkie feathers but are also frizzled "curly feathers".
