Frizzle thread

Pics
No, if a bird carries the frizzle gene, it will show frizzling to some degree. If it is smooth, it is not frizzled.

For the most part

. I think I remember talk of a recessive "ghost" frizzling gene or something like that, but I think thats quite rare.

I just posted this to the sexing thread, but thought this would be an appropriate place too!

I bought a frizzle chick, the woman I bought her/him (I will go with her from now on for good luck) from estimated 3 weeks old, which puts her around 4 weeks. She looks a lot bigger than the silkie I bought from her at the same time, but they could be different ages. I'm guessing Harold Crick is 4-5 weeks old. She is feathering out nicely, I know some people say males feather slower, but I don't know if frizzles are different. I noticed tiny little wattle looking things coming in, they look pink/red, which gave me a bit of a heart attack, but I might be overreacting. I just really need her to be a her, I already have a one year old rooster who is trouble :)

A lovely profile

ITS SO FLUFFY!!!!!!!!

I'm also wondering what the story is with this one. I purchased Sylvia as a silkie, the woman I bought her from said she was a smooth silkie. She then said people say there is no such this, but this is going to be one, so they are wrong... Is it a silkie? I want another fluffy chicken, and was hoping for the fluffy head, but am now wondering if she will fluff out.

I am so worried about my Mr. Sizzle rooster! Some kids came over yesterday evening (this guy is going to build my coop) and the tweens thought it would be fun to try to catch him while I was talking to this guy. I noticed he went to the field beside where we live but I didn't worry because he always wondered back to his coops here. Well, I've already been out opening up everything and I still haven't heard his crowing or seen him. I am not physically able to go look for him but I feel like I would have heard him crowning at least if he was ok!! I'm afraid he got down at the woodline and something got him...it was about dark so this is a prime time for the predators to be out lurking.....

Thanks for your reply. I have a lot of mixed responses on the "what breed is this" Two people over there are thinking a silkie mix. One said a possible silkie/cochin, one said silkie/d'uccle. I was really hoping for a feathery crest, but it looks like that won't be happening. She is a feisty little thing, and is looking semi-fluffy, I guess I will see what she will turn into!
