Frizzled Cochin not a recognized breed.

I really don't have anyone to ask. This is my boys first full year with 4H and their first year showing anything. So it was a bit disappointing. I just didn't think the frizzled cochin would be a problem.

Seeing it's 4-H you should have a superintendant you can contact, we have one that cover both rabbits and poultry. I would contact your extension office and find the number for the person in charge...start there.

I pm'ed a friend to check this thread out. Maybe she can be some help here.

I guess I would just show what you have and use it as experience. I'm sure your son will learn alot from the experience of talking to judges and just talking to other showers.

That's pretty much the way we are looking at it. Since this is their first year anyway just being able to show is exiciting for them.

Having been involved in 4H in MN it is more about education, some leaders in 4H are not familiar with the APA book of standard. I had to more than once step in for families who wanted to show certain colors or varieties. Even as basic as the splash and partridge silkies and it is handy to have the book with you as proof. Also there are APA/ABA judges on state 4H judging lists, have them back you up. I often had them contact Mark Peterson who is a Master Breeder/Exhibitor, APA/ABA Judge and 4H Judge here in MN. Super nice guy and big promotor of 4H as he leases top cochins out of his flock to 4H kids every year.
We have owned and shown the Bantam Cochin Frizzles for 10 years in ABA/APA shows. Shari of Harvest Breeze is correct.

Depends on the breed. Splash is a recognised colour for many breeds, including silkies. I'll take your word on the langshans

That makes no sense at all. A Frizzle is frizzle regardless the breed, why in the world they would tell you they recogize the clean legs and not the featherlegs is beyond me. I'd fight that one. I have a very dear friend that raises gorgeous white frizzle in WA, she has been on Champion Row many times with her birds in open sanctioned shows. They are wrong, tell them to look at the Standard of Perfection or Bantam Standard of Perfection they're in it!

SOP: Frizzle bantams may be shown in ANY breed and VARIETY set forth in this SOP. All sections of the bird being exhibited must conform to the shape description and the color description of the breed and variety under consideration.

Shari

Yes, both ABA and APA standards say that frizzle is recognised for every recognised breed. If the bird is of sufficient quality it can be show champion. However, as another post stated, frizzle is a variety, not a breed.

I received a call from destiny_56085 about this issue, but she is at work right now. She was able to read the responses but not reply.

She explained how it all works (which I retained a fraction of it), but she did say that Shari is right on and after reading Connie's reply it really make some sense.
I am going to sit back and not assume anything. I am learning too, thankfully you are getting some experienced advise.

I would kill to get the splash recognized in the Langshan. To me, it is SO much prettier than the blue...one day I WILL get a splash male!

We LOVE frizzles and have eggs in the bator now hoping for some more, yours are very cute and hope you get it all worked out.
If you need help feel free to contact me.
