Frizzles - they are so stinkin' cute, I can't stand it. Just be certain to NEVER breed a frizzle to another frizzle. One parent should have normal feathers

This is a frazzle. Two copies of the frizzle gene make the feathers fragile and the poor bird is mostly nekkid.

If you breed a frizzle, to a smooth, roughly half your chicks will be frizzles, but none will be in danger of looking like this.

If you breed a frizzle to a frizzle, you get 25% smooth, 50% frizzle, and 25% frazzle, you don't improve your odds of frizzle by breeding two frizzles together.

Thanks! That was my biggest fear in not really getting any info from the breeder. My fingers are crossed that they didn’t breed their frizzles to frizzles. The fact that one of our little ones is smooth feathered gives me hope that the rest are all single parent frizzle kids.
...now to wait and see who we get to keep, and who starts crowing.

FYI, chickens have a hard time breathing on their backs. It can eventually kill them. Their weight is designed to be suspended from their spine. When you flip them over, it compresses their lungs.

I promise s/he wasn’t injured in our attempt to get a muppet-chicken photo...only reclined for a moment, and not upset about it at all. Thank you for the advice, we surely wouldn’t want to cause any respiratory problems!
