From egg to chick!

Pics
Tried hand feeding them this afternoon. The black one has more pep and, well, peep. The yellow one, has lost even more weight since last night and wouldn't eat. Barely has any energy left it seems. I did get some water in both of them. I will try a couple more times to get something in them tonight. Hopefully they make it til tomorrow and I find someone tonight who wants them.

:hugs

Right? They were even struggling to eat watermelon I put out this afternoon. Idk what to do. Tons of wild animals out here. Honestly I could just let them go and have nature do its thing....but I just can't do it bc I would feel so horrible!
My hen did best with wet food in a glass. She was able to put her beak down into the wet food and get some to eat. I also used a glass for her water.
Heavy bottom glasses, they were around 2.5” across. I used taller glasses as she grew. I think I got them at Walmart.

‘Ready’ was not kept with the other chickens. I bought chicks & raised them near her. They became her friends but I still had to make sure Ready got food & water a couple of times a day.

Sister in law came over. She did the deed. I mentioned the birds. Didn't know she went and culled them real quick. They didn't suffer. Yellow baby is at peace. Black baby is with them as well. Left the bodies for the buzzards. Circle of life and all that. I only cried a little.

Hugs, many many hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs . They're at peace now. Fly high, little babies❤️

You did the right thing, hugs.

When I hand fed a young EE chick that had a hard time after pecking it's way out of the shell, the very last chick to hatch, I tried a method often used with wild birds. Dip a child's type watercolor paint brush into a wet mash, and tap the beak gently, or do a motion like the paint brush coated with food is a slow fly buzzing around. Most times the baby will peck the food right off. Hope this helps. I did that 4x a day for a week to save that chick, also introduced mealworms, live & dried, the tiny ones. I had to feed him alone away from the healthy chicks or they'd grab it all & he'd get nothing. He was slow to grow & I thought he may not make it. The 1st 48 hiurs he was wobbly, but he snuggled under mama with the rest & did learn to peck at stuff. He made it. He is a beautiful rooster today, you'd never know he was the "runt of the litter" chick.

The handfeeding formula I like is found at most pet shores, Kaytee baby bird. Sometimes for chicken chicks I'd add some fresh egg yolk. You can use the tiny paint brush, handfeeding oral syringe or pipette. It can get messy. Have a towel on your lap, it gives them something better to stand on & catches food, as they do like to wipe their beaks off or shake stuff off.

Season 11 Hug GIF by One Chicago

Big hug. It was the right thing to do.

The cross beak I had was fed wet feed every single day no matter what and hers was only mildly crossed. Those 2 had severe crossed beaks. Life would have been very challenging and quality simply wouldn't have been there. I am so sorry.
