From egg to chick!

Pics
You can puncture a small hole in the egg and blow the insides out. Then you could exhibit it as you please. CONGRATS on the egg! How exciting! You'll soon be part of mature hen-keeping! If they are brown, they will stay brown. Maybe it wasn't your EE? Or she's actually an EE mix, so mic of mixes

There is a bad storm moving through, and it kicked the power off by the time we got home. Went outside to check on the babies with my flashlight. They are damp but fine. If the power stays off I will move them inside one of the bathrooms for the night simply bc it will drop down to 39 tonight. I will just have to put a roost bar over the tub and stick em in it.

ANYWHO!

I went to check on the babies. I was checking them out. Went to check the brood light and something roundish and shiny caught my eye the ground. I looked over and couldn't believe my eyes!!

An egg had appeared! No idea who though, but I assume Olivia. Yet the egg is brown 🤔 Either way! Enjoy this cute little teeny first egg.
Congratulations! I know how exciting that must have been!

Will the eggs stay brown? I am assuming this egg is from my Olive egger.
Eggs don't change in color. Once a female lay an egg that is a certain color, it will stay that way. Unless, of course, she has a malfunction with her bloom producing. I had that happen once with an Easter Egger-she normally lays light green eggs, but she laid one egg that was so thick with bloom that is was very dark green. It was also very small, and when I cracked it open, it had another egg inside of it.

A % of EEs will lay a brown egg, one of my 7 did, her name was Spazzy, she 100% for the name, so it was also fitting she laid a brown egg 🤣

Just be very gentle making the holes as sometimes pulley eggs have things shells since they may not have been getting as much calcium as they will need yet.

Meh. Olive egger my butt! I know it's her now bc after the power came back on there were small black fuzz feather pieces stuck to it. Dang it. Lol. Maybe they will darken or something a bit? Maybe have a greenish hue? If not oh well. I would have to cross her with a blue egg breed right? Blue + brown = green?

Oh my gosh, she's adorable :love
Right? She is also a chonky girl (it's all feather though). I can tell a few babies who might be roos bc the tails are more arched compared to the other babies. No wattles on the others yet but they are still too little to tell right? Only one showing wattle progress is Pelican (first pic). The other 2/3 have tails that kinda look like a droopy V (see 2nd pic and bird on the very right).
