from egg to chicken

How long does it take for an egg to hatch? The old fashion way (just by the hen sitting on them)

Thanks I was inquiring about chickens. I really appreciate the answer. Its hard to believe it don't take any longer then that.

I can't wait until I get to have some chicks. I raised the ones I got from two days old but I haven't never hatched real live eggs. yippee. I guess spring would be the best time??? I live is west virginia.
