Great idea for turning! I’ve never used cartons, and I’ve read that some folks don’t like using the paper cartons, but I can’t remember the reasons. Maybe drawing moisture? Also do you have holes cut in the bottom of the cartons? I wonder about circulation. Just a thought.
And the eggs look good too. Funny that the one group looks a bit ahead. Maybe they will even out by the time hatch day comes. Do you move them around as far as where they sit in the incubator? Maybe you have some varying temperatures causing one set to develop quicker?
I was thinking about just laying everyone down at this point if it would help even things out. I have no issues turning by hand I just thought this might be effective to some degree. And it was but if it would give them a better chance to make it through lockdown to be hand turned while on their sides I will.Cayuga egg is not viable
MD 13 & 14 are not viable
TX 6 & 7 started developing but quit. A blood ring does not have to make a complete ring, but the blood vessel network collapsed. Those are gone.
TX 9 & 10 appear to have never developed.
All of the above can be tossed
The rest look great!
Except.... MD 2. I’d lay that one down if possible, with that clear gap on top, so the blood vessels will gravitate to the top and fill that area. It needs to overtake the whole egg, like the others.
Congrats though, you have several doing great!
@WVduckchick when you said lay MD2 down on its side with the clear gap on top. Am I going to avoid rotating that one for a little bit to give it a chance to do just that?Cayuga egg is not viable

I have also opted to lay everyone on their sides and do hand turning starting tonight. It will mean I do fewer rotations daily down from the 9 I have been to 5 but i think that will be ok this late in the game now.
Of the MD ones i pulled which were 3, 6, 10,13, and 14. Only 13 had had grown a few days then stopped somewhere along the way to day three I am guessing the rest were just infertile.
I couldn't bring myself to pull the Texas ones yet. I am going to wait a few more days and re-candle. I will be watching for anything going bad though, daily. Likely multiple times a day because I am crazy like that.
Sounds like a plan!
MD2’s CAM is slower developing, but it’s still early, so should be ok. Don’t stop turning it. When you turn, place your flashlight on it before you roll it. And try getting it to invade that area. Roll whichever way gets it to gravitate that way, if that makes sense. If you watch as you roll, and for a few seconds after, you can actually watch the network of blood vessels move toward the top. Pretty cool to see actually.![]()
