Hey there @jaykayhuff and welcome to BYC! :welcome

Always great to have a fellow duck lover. I am so glad you've been using BYC as a resource for poultry care, and that you've decided to join to better find answers. These folks are super helpful and know their stuff- they are really quick to respond if you ever post a question or concern.

Best of luck with your new duck hatch and future breeding/eggs. I may be biased, but I LOVE baking with duck eggs!

What's this? HomesteaderWife's regular greeting chicken has been replaced. You've been visited by The Welcome Tater!

Here are some pictures of my Welsh Harlequin that is 22 weeks now. Petrie was the only one to hatch in my first set of eggs I incubated. He was a cuddle bug and loved being anywhere my dog was until he started raging with hormones so now he just tries to mount everything and is very aggressive until he gets a couple practice rounds in on whatever stuffed toy is lying around

Welcome I to had been reading the Backyard chicken for a year before I decided to join. I have 6 laying chickens and two call ducks. I am interested in what criteria you used in choosing your duck breeds. I live in the city and had a small water feature in my yard. Call ducks fit my "pond".

I did lots of research on the different breeds and made a list of all the ones that fit my criteria of: non-flying, egg layers, quiet, and calm. I live on the edge of town so I didn’t want a breed that was known to be noisy because I do have a neighbor. That is also why I wanted non-flying. All three breeds I have are really quiet unless I come around, then they get chatty until they’ve said their “hello’s” and go back to foraging. Ha

Second that on the duck and dog together, with the duck's raging hormones, hopefully the dog can out run him :gig
That is what it boils down to because the duck can definitely take him and if I intervene then he just tries to seduce me. I’m surprised he doesn’t pay any attention or try with my 12 week old ducks. He’s just all about his dog and mom I guess ‍♀️
