From tragedy comes growth

Oh Java girl, I feel your pain! Why do we love these precious little prey animals so much!

Absolutely!

I waited patiently ALLLLLL day long while at work. Wanting to come home and snuggle my babies!

We started with my year old hen, tried pumpin puree tonight with her, she LOVES it! I'm not a fan of being splattered with it though

Then I let duck out and her and Red were reunited and stood close to each other in the larger crate. I'm thinking tomorrow afternoon if the rain clears and it warms up like it is supposed to, Red and Duck may be good to go back out to the coop. I'll miss having them close, but they need to be outside. Neither one has laid in 2 days now and I'm sure it's the stress of the attack, healing and then being brought inside. Red stares longingly out the window and makes her clucks as if she is expressing her desire to be FREEEEEEE.

Then after yet another round of handwashing, I was able to play with the baby fuzzybutts. I brought them their own plate of pumpkin puree and not sure if they understood what it was all about at first. So we sprinkled some crumbles on top and then LOOK OUT! Olive the duckling went bonkers for it! The princess's were not as interested. Then I snuggled for a bit before putting them up for the night. The boys had the out and about earlier as well so I am sure they got lots of QT with family today.

My night light that I use for heat on them at night blew last night and I forgot to pick up a new bulb. I put a small space heater in the room set on a super low setting. It may work... I'll check on it here in a little bit. Shew the joy of being a chicken mama!

Here goes nothing! The first night when my darlings return to their coop. I went down earlier and let them free range under the watchful eyes of my boys while I cleaned out the rest of the coop. Then we replaced food and water and locked them up tight for the night.

I went down after it got dark just to check on them, and Red was roosting and making her "angry noise"

It sounds like she is wondering what the heck I have done with her sisters! It breaks my heart to think that she is missing them, and will be sleeping alone tonight since Ducky sticks to the floor.

BUT, it's only temporary as the new chicklets will be out there before we all know it.

Meanwhile, I introduced our Boxer to the chickies tonight while I cleaned out the brooder

She did awesome (aside from a good lick she got in before I could stop her). Then I shooed her out and set down a clean rag and put the babies out to play a bit with the human family. What a hoot! I wish I had gotten pictures, it was HYSTERICAL! The duck went zipping around like she was in Nascar or something, and then she went after my youngest son's eyelash. We attempted banana tonight with them and she got it EVERYWHERE!

Meanwhile the princess' were so calm and collected about being handled I was flabbergasted!

They are already so sweet! This is why we went with more Comets, so precious...

I'm going to get more pictures tomorrow!

They are pretty special these girls are!!!!!! The amount of healing that has been brought about by having such itty bitty's to care for is staggering!

I'm trying to upload more pictures of the girls, (first brood included), it's just taking some time

My page also has pics of our coop and some of the girls.
