Front Porches

The nicest thing about my rather simple front and back porches is the new habit BJ roo and hen Annie have formed. She stakes out the front porch, standing on the doormat there and he stakes out the back, standing on the doormat there. So whether I look out the front or back door, there is a chicken sentry at either one. It is the funniest thing! (I have to learn the way of getting photos posted before I can show this crazy feathered doorman and doorhen in action!). They even talk to each other (not a large house, so they can hear each other "around the corner").

Redfeathers,Cyn, you both have such lovely porches. Oh the conversations that could be had on a warm evening...listening to the night bugs sing. Unfortunately, my porch is...well.....bland! I have a split level...therefore my front porch is very tall, with 6 white pillars....brick front. Nothing to it actually. And the house faces the west, so in the summertime, it is unbearable to sit out there. I prefer the back breakfast patio..overlooking the woods. I dont think I have any pics from there....but here is the front of the house. Pretty, but NOT comfy in the summer.

My front porch is why I bought this house. It just looked so homey. Sorry, I don't have a picture of it right now, and I'm not going to go out in the snow to take one!! It's a covered porch and during the summer I have a couple of rocking chairs out there. The cats love to sun them selves and so do the chickens!! I just love sitting out there during the summer and watch the chickens and look over my flower garden. What a life!

Wow, Speckled Hen! Is that a rose growing up and over your porch?? Beautiful!

Gee, thank you all! Yes, that is a rose, a tiny pom-pom like pink rose called a Minehaha Rose. It grows maybe 10-15 ft a year and I have to trim it to keep it from pulling the porch off the house, LOL. It only blooms once a year for about three weeks. I love it. Once this is what I found hidden on the porch railing, lovingly held by its branches:

BTW, that rose takes really no effort. It just gets powdery mildew alot, but keeps on growing. I never do much at all to it except spray what parts I can reach with baking soda in water for the mildew thing if it gets too much.
