Front Porches

This got my attention. We bought our house for the porches. I had wanted porches for years and we never could figure out how to add what we wanted to the house we lived in for over 20 years. So we bought this one in the country. I wish i had some pics of my front porch. It is huge and DH and I designed the rails on it. I will try next month when the grass gets green to take a pic. Here is a few shots of the back porch we live on

The first pic is my porch. The second is of bluebirds taking off from the birdbath. I love sitting on the front porch!

When I moved in the front yard was just grass. I spent all of last spring laying pavers and edgers (about 3000 of those suckers), tilling up the beds and planting stuff. It was mostly annuals last year. I'm starting to put in perennials. Once it warms up I'll get the fence painted white. It went in too late last year to get it done.

I love sitting on the front porch looking out over the front yard!

Like Citygirl in the Country it has been a labor of love for 6 yrs. The place had been empty for two years and way overgrown. We have cut down 11 big trees planted daylilies and established beds. We have planted 10 camelias and other shrubs. We love the yard and have big dreams. We are going to put a picket fence in the front and finish landscaping around there in the next year or two. I won't go in to all the work we have done but it sure has been fun. We enjoy be at home here.
I love everyones porches. Nothing we enjoy more than sitting and rocking or swinging when it is raining. We have lots of pool parties and backporch picnics three seasons of the year.

What lovely porches you all have! What wonderful homes!

This is my front porch. One is a photo from my Christmas card showing winter and the others are how it looks in spring, summer and early fall.

If you can't tell I love ferns. They make a porch look so cool and inviting to me.

A few of you have those wonderful white rocking chairs on your porches. I love them.

I was hoping you would post a few pictures of your porch MissPrissy. It's lovely.

BEAUTIFUL! Everyone has such great porches. I can't wait to get ours built.

I did a search on Speckled Hen's rose: Minnehaha--

Ashdown Roses in SC carries it and has them instock for $16.95! I am going to order one on Monday! It's lovely and if says it does well in different conditions.. Oh, maybe a rose to go over a chicken coop run!! Dixie

Dixie, it has little smell, but it grows like gangbusters and puts on a great show once a year. The foliage is very pretty after the blooms are gone, though. Here is link to a photo and description:

Oh, it roots well, too. From the cuttings, I just stuck a cane in the ground and started one at the far corner of the picket fence which will climb on that back toward the house and mingle with several other roses I have from my grandmother's farm house.
