Front Porches

They are damp when I put the ferns in the cellar. I do not water them. My cellar has a tiny window so they are not in total dark. They recover quickly because the ferns grow from spores that can be dormant for years.

No way to keep them from crawling that I know of. I use an old rug under my rockers and it helps some but they will eventually crawl off if you do a lot of rocking. Ummmmm, I just had an idea. Maybe if I turn the rug upside down and rock on the rubber side it won't crawl. Think I will try that.

All of your porches are just gorgeous! We have a small porch, and it currently isn't inviting. However, I do have a huge rose bush that I have to trim every year. My husband has threatened to try and kill it but he is afraid that his efforts would be wasted and it would survive. Last Spring I had some babies coming out of it's root system and we even got flowers out of them when I transplanted them.

Katy I think I have a picture somewhere and if you want some I can bring you some. I don't know what to do for cuttings, when I started it I had one limb with some roots and planted it. I was told that they came from my great grandmother's rose garden. Let me know if you are interested and I will find the picture.

MissPriss, I have been afraid of getting a fern, I heard that they are hard to take care of. I think I will have to buy one this spring, thanks!

My dream is to have a house with a porch. Not sure if I'll ever get it though. I don't want the big house, not the fancy house, not the house with the most toys, but a house where I can watch my horses running in the pasture, and of course the chickens pecking the ground from my porch, sitting with my kids ( or grandkids when they come ) enjoying life the simple way.
We're trying though. Suburbia is killing me

hmm I don't think I have a pic of our porch (it just never occured to me to take a pic of it). I'll search my photobucket account and see if I can find one or I'll take a pic tommorrow.

This is the porch on our house right now, I'll post photos of the finished porch when we do it on the new house!

The deck used to be bigger, but I cut it down and took the railings off, and it looks great now, we have more plants up but I can't be bothered to go and take another photo, lol.
