Keep us posted on his recovery including pictures along the way. Those can be very helpful to share with others dealing with this. Usually, during Jan/Feb, the emergency forum is full of frostbite issues. This season, we have seen a few already.

Update...
My poor fella, his toes (and then some) have broken off. He still seems to be in no obvious distress, was been walking around on his hobbled feet, even still able to roost. It’s shocking to look at, I can add pictures for the sake of education if anyone is interested.

Yes, please post photos. These threads are meant to be instructional for others. A lot of folks end up here after doing Google searches.

We knew he would lose his toes from the photos you had posted. I remember when a hen of mine lost a toe after it looked like your rooster's. It was frightening at first before I figured out what was going on, but it was fascinating to watch the process nonetheless. Your boy will be fine.

It would be educational to add photos. I'm very sorry about your rooster.

The picture of his foot still intact was taken this morning, by late afternoon his feet had changed dramatically.

I have another suggestion. If you edit your topic title to include :Update: spontaneous auto-amputation, it will garner way more views when people search for material on this topic. You have some very valuable photos and this thread will be a great resource.

If you can't make the edit work, notify the mods for help and they will take care of altering the title.
