Frustrated!!!!! Ducks won't go into pond

Hi Everybody, I need some advice, I have read many posts about people having issues with their ducks not wanting to go into their ponds, has anyone found a solution to the problem???? I have 4 mallards that are 3 months old today, they refuse to go into our pond. When they were younger I would take them down to the pond & they would go into it & play but now that their older & outside in their pen they refuse to go into the pond when I let them out during the day. I thought we had a snapping turtle but I have been setting traps for the last couple of weeks & have got nothing, the only things we have in the pond are fish & bull frogs, my husband says i'm spoiling them by having a kiddie pool in their pen that's why they won't go into the pond. I've even got into the pond hoping they would follow me but they just stand on the side & watch me. Any advice, their ducks & we have a nice pond I feel bad that they don't enjoy it. :barnie:(
My sentiments exactly I was wondering the same thing I started to think that perhaps the ponds have something in them that we can’t see, and our loving ducks are trying to warn us. Maybe our waters are contaminated and some seem to stream through without out our acknowledgment, are used to love looking out of my back window in my backyard and seeing the ducks in the pond every day even in the winter until recently the last couple of months strange but I’ve been thinking about it periodically and wondering why they have not gone in the Ponds, instead they walk around in the backyard.Inquiring minds really want to know and then I happened to stumble upon some environmentalist , looking type of worker w/ utility jackets on, So it made me think they were taking samples testing them, from the Ponds, which really arose my thoughts.

:welcome There is always the possibility of snapping turtles too. They love eating waterfowl.

I have the opposite problem. Anytime I let my ducks out of their enclosure they go straight to our koi pond and my husband doesn’t want them in there because he says they’ll kill all the expensive plants (fish are already dead thanks to water issues). So I try to keep them out. They love their baby pool but our pond is like a magnet, and they immediately start eating the water lillies! We have a lake behind our house that he wants them swimming in, I’m afraid we’d never see them again if we put them out there.

Could you put the edge of the kiddie pool up to the pond water, so it was kind-of connected? Then put them in the pool and see if they venture beyond the pool edge?
