Frustrated with TS

jeez to get frustrated because you think you have there business expertise to order just what you want then you should be a breeder....just kidding but really you cant ever predict what others want...

It's perfectly reasonable to be frustrated. TS is apparently using the "Black Friday" strategy with their chicks--carry just a few really nice items that people really want to get them in the door, then hopefully they'll buy something else if they can't get what they came in for. It's no accident that they don't order enough to meet demand--they are hoping you'll be willing to buy a different breed with a higher profit margin when you can't get the one you came for.

I have been self emp;oyed since 1980 and that is not the way it works...if you search you will find out this year there are more back yard chicken raisers than ever

And not to mention with some states changing the laws or relaxing
them so more people can have them so of course it is going to be
harder to have chicks on hand of everyone's wants and desires
that kind of predicting is rather hard so most places hatch the egg's
they have as fast as they can for the spring time buy's as it is right
now ......

So, Happybooker, which breeds are you seeking? Just Blue Andalusians?
Put together a list and perhaps we can find some breeders for you to buy from.
If you like the breed and what that the breed offers, then buying from a breeder
who is working to breed towards the Standard of Perfection, will get you a bird
much closer to the ideal you fell in love with. What's on your "must have" list?
Best Regards,

To be clear, I don't think the low supply is a marketing ploy--I think using hard-to-come-by breeds as a draw is the marketing ploy. They tout the availability of, say, Andalusians even though they know supplies will be extremely limited, because they're hoping once you get in the door you'll buy something, even if you couldn't get what you came for.

I do believe you hit the nail on the head with that one ....

I dont think its a marketing ploy. I think thats given them too much credit. I think they dont know what to order or it could be the hatchery that isnt giving them what they order.
Im in Missouri and our TS dorsnt have a breed of the week or anything special. They have assorted ducks, assorted bantams, cornish cross and three layer breeds. Thats it. They get their chicks in on thursday. We went by one sunday and the last two saturdays and they were sold out. Not one chick in three weeks.

Orschlens has been selling chicks also. Their chicks are coming from a different hatchery. Theyve been getting quite a few chicks in but not a lot of selection. The lady told us the other day that the hatchery keeps substituting what they order with new hampshire reds and black sex links. They had said something about it to them so that week all they were sent was pan fry and barred rocks.
