FS: MI Welsummer eggs 12++

If you don't mind me asking, where are you located in Michigan? I live near Lapeer, and if it isn't to far of a drive, I would love to buy some from you and just pick them up instead of shipping

Could someone please tell me what the difference is between a breeder stock and hatchery stock welsummer? I got the Meyers Catalog and the cover has a beautiful welsummer hen on it, so I ordered 2 chicks that will be here in two weeks. Have I made a mistake?

Breeder stock is more consisent with coloring, and standard of the Welsummers and the nice terra cotta eggs. And good disposition and temperment is a must in this breed.

hatchery stock is a gamble, you might get lucky and some you wont be. Egg color may be alot lighter or wrong 'brown' color (like a Barred Rock brown egg) instead of a real terra cotta egg color. Some would have white earlobes, meaning they cheated on you for some Brown Leghorns, white egg layers and nasty temperments. What you see in the pic is not all cracked up to be and some hatcheries still used the same pictures for their Welsummer ads.

You still can enjoy your Welsummer chicks if you want just egg layers but if you want the REAL thing, then you will have to get some from the breeders.

I can attest to the quality of Vicki's birds. You couldn't do better. I have Welsummers myself and they really are easy keepers. Even my rooster is real calm and not aggressive when I enter the run.

Sorry, been crazy busy today, but have to agree with EweSheep on the difference between hatchery and breeder stock and it is the same with most breeds. Some hatchery's are better than others and some of their breeds may be better than their other breeds, but for the most part breeders strive to meet the breed standard, and do a better job at it.

Oh, and thanks Sam!! Of course, I must thank Sam, as some of my girls came from him and what wonderful girls they are!!
