FS: MI Welsummer eggs

I'm in central Michigan too and would love some Welsummers, tried to hatch some shipped eggs and had no luck, I think it was too cold for shipping--- are you close enough to Midland that I could come get some, and how much would they be with no shipping?

Hi Vicki,

I am south of Lansing, about 15-20 miles, so that is up to you, whether you want to travel that far or not. If so, pm me and we will work out the details. I do travel to Lansing quite often and I am sure I could meet you there, if that helps. Also, not sure if it would be cheaper to ship such short distances, if so, I could discount the shipping. I could check that if you send me your zip code.

If you consider egg color Marans in general lay darker eggs.
That's why Copper Marans commend such a high prices now.

Don't get me wrong, I love Welsummers too, they are pretty birds with good personality.

I agree completely but welsummers are easier on my pocketbook.

Easier on the pocketbook, and more consistent in their egg color. That egg color with Marans is tricky business. You get beautiful deep russet-colored eggs one day and the next you get a nest box that looks like the neighbor's RIRs snuck in and layed a clutch.

Marans are a lot of work--I know, I have Marans, not Welsummers!

Maybe I need Welsummers, they might be a bit less frustrating (though don't get me wrong, I love my Marans)! Hehe. One day when I have more space I'll get Wellies.

Vicki, those are pretty birds!

Thanks Crunchie, and they lay consistantly, their nice brown egg, which I find gorgeous, no worrying about it not being as dark as it was at the beginning of the cycle and stuff. Though I must say, thoughs Maran eggs are tempting!!
