Fugly Farm

@igorsMistress Shadow layed her first egg today. It's sort of a blueish-green in color! Now I have to wait until her's are big enough to hatch!

@Compost King said that those one's from him lay earlier.

Congrats on your 1st egg from Shadow :)

I've been reading some girls are laying again now that the days are getting a bit longer. Guess my girls haven't seen the memo.:p

Thank's, I really love the color of this egg! Shadow isn't going to be sold now! :lau

Bring the memo to them and show them, but be careful that they don't destroy it by eating it.

I went out to lock up last night and guess what? There was a line of chicks on the main roost. They did it by themselves :yesss:previously they were roosting all over the place because those last 2 boys were jerks. We're down to 18 chickens now.

I was outside early this morning and could hear an owl softly hooting. It was close, the hooting was fairly soft, maybe on the house or in the tree. I need to read up on them again and find out how long their babies stay in the nest.

NFC if that poor kitty hanging on for dear life in your avatar is any indication of the conditions your flock is enduring, I bet the memo wouldn't do any good.

You're right...most paper products don't last long outside

Ahh, the babies are growing up.

Are the owls any threat to your birds IM?

I didn't used to think so. Until the day I went outside on my break to check on everything and one flew out of the side yard and scared the heck out of me. I'm also fairly certain the pair were harassing the chicks in the mini coop at night this winter. They used to do the same to the quail when I had them.

It's interesting to watch them hunt. I loved to sit and watch them try to figure out how to get the quail. One would try to flush them from cover on the ground while the other waited above to pounce if they made it out of the enclosure.
