Watered this morning and the lantana is blooming tiny purple flowers :) one of the Vitex blooms purple, the other is blooming white. Three of the four white sage plants have died. The two out front I’m still watering in case the roots are still alive. Maybe they’ll come back. The chickens are enjoying the mud puddles, but it’s pretty muggy out there and we’re expecting to finish out the month with 110+ temps; if we do, the entire month of July we will have had 110+ every day, with a good portion of that at or over 115. I’m amazed, this crew is really a bunch of troopers.

Your chickens are tougher than I am, I would have expired a long time ago in that heat.

The blooms sound beautiful, IM. The temperatures sound brutal. I'm glad your flock is doing well.

I figured out a better way to give the chickens cool water in the afternoons right now. I put a small bucket in their pool and the iced water keeps the water in the bucket cool too. The problem with the five gallon waterer is that the water in the bucket is cool, but the quail cups are small and the water in those warms up so the chickens don’t drink it and drink from the pool instead. Gross, but the little bucket of water solves the clean water issue so at least they’ll have a choice. Tomorrow we get a bigger pool so everyone can get in at once.

Great idea! :thumbsup

Man it’s unpleasant outside already! 103 at 1100. Went to TSC for a couple bales of straw. Leaving them in the yard gives the chickens some work to do and they very much enjoy tearing them apart. I found these for treats, will add a few to some wet mash in the morning and see what they think

I keep hoping you're going to post that your temps have cooled off and you're getting rain. One of these days that's going to happen.

Your flock should like the treats!

You’re right, it’ll happen. I’m not holding my breath though, per the news it’s not looking good for at least the next couple of weeks 😬 They count official rain at the airport, we have been left dry many times even though Phoenix officially got some precipitation.
