Fugly Farm

I went to check on everyone and Henna is grumpy today, maybe she’s going to lay again soon. She finally lost her last tail feather. She’s the only one that Attila checks her attitude around so I’m thinking she’s the head honcho now. Phoenix still follows her around but I see him just hanging out more and not constantly with her. He hasn’t crowed yet that I’ve heard, but I’m going to start treating him here and there. He’s still a bit skittish with me but that’s probably a good thing. I didn’t see the ducks, don’t know whether Ripley is laying yet or not.

Awe, they are sweet looking babies :love

That’s wonderful that she rescued them too. We did not this time; I still had Midge and most of the bully breeds we found at the pound weren’t good with other dogs.

Those babies are growing fast! I imagine they’re close to two weeks old at this point, so just a couple of weeks and I can let them out of the garden. They want to be out with the bigs really bad. Attila, I don’t know about her. She is so mean to Phoenix, I think I might lock her up for a week and see how that goes.

I prefer to eat my chicken plucked and cooked. 🤣
She is sweet when not broody. When she hatches chicks she will let me handle them and even sits in my lap with them. She just turns evil when she is broody.
The broody monster is real!

Found the hidden duck nest and blocked it off. I can’t get under there to get the eggs, but they can’t get in there to lay now. There is an alternate location where I found about a dozen eggs though.

On a side note, I don’t understand this societal obsession with a youthful appearance. Men getting Botox injections and doing commercials about it. Little old ladies with zero grays. I’m proud of my gray hairs and crows feet. I earned these babies.
Growing old gracefully seems to be a forgotton art.

Watching the weather and we are near to breaking a record for the most days at 110+ set last year. Today is going to be hot with a break tomorrow and maybe a bit of rain. Then back up to 110 or higher for the rest of the week. It’s cool and comfortable this morning in the mid 80’s but that will likely change as well.

Phoenix spends a lot of time in the yard where the coops are so I put a pool in there and I’m moving the bucket waterer in there. The bigs drink from the duck buckets anyway.

Looks like everyone is doing ok in spite of the heat IM...you take good care of your critters.
It was actually in the average range for a few days with the mornings being noticeably pleasant. At least until the sun came up.
