I spent the better part of the weekend outside in the backyard with the flock. The tweens and bigs got some chopped tomato and everyone got some mustard greens from the garden.
I took the heat plate out of the mini coop yesterday, the wee ones are sleeping in a pile without it.
I was starting to second guess myself about the pullet but ultimately put her down. Made me sad, she was sweet girl.
The white Turken roo has been the first tween out of the coop after the big girls come out. He'll come out and have scratch with them and if they walk toward him he no longer runs, just moves away a little bit. It has been interesting to watch him gradually integrate himself with them. He and the SF boy are the 2 crowers, but the Dorking pullet is showing a preference for the Turken male. He came out to the compost pile while I was raking it up and stood on top of it to crow a few times. He reminds a lot of Fugly in attitude and demeanor.
The rest of the boys are a pain in a lot of ways. Still very young and always under foot. The SF boy is a sneaky one...always likes to get behind me when I'm in the coop. He's also a talker...lots of screeching, clicks and growls. He also acts like he's tidbitting me all the time and got mad when I backed him off so he's definitely headed for freezer camp.
