Fugly Farm

Got my fall/winter seeds ordered:
Scarlet nantes carrots, lettuce, spinach, kale, mustard, garlic, butternut squash, buttercup squash, and broccoli.

How fun!

Are those the same carrots you grew before? Hope you like the buttercup squash! If you want to get fancy with it, you can mash it after baking and in addition to the s&p sprinkle a bit of nutmeg in it...yum :drool

That sounds delicious! I did butternut that way and everyone ate it. Surprised me.

Yes the scarlet nantes are the variety we like. I'm hoping to leave a few to go to seed next year. They're not really long like store carrots and have a much better flavor.

Carrots never grew well for me. Maybe by the time I can garden again, you can give me some pointers.

One of the bushes out by the mesquite tree was outgrowing its tomato cage and hopefully the others will do the same this year. I found some garden stakes and bird netting in the garage so I made a single large enclosure for all three. Moved the shade structure onto the patio to keep the concrete a little cooler as the chickens come out of their yard. It'll provide morning shade on one side and afternoon shade on the other.

A couple of the Gladiolus have sprouted! I planted purple and yellow.

It seems like you just planted the Glads not long ago...have I lost track of time again, or have those started coming up really fast?
I don't remember how long but I thought it was quick too. I filled part of the hole with hay and bunny poop before planting :idunno Also soaked the bulbs for 24 hours first.
