Fugly Farm

Awe your poor little girl. I hope the shots helped her. My moms dog gets shots also and he definitely needs them.

The shelves were more for being able to find what I was looking for lol. I’m short and you know how stuff always ends up in the back of the cabinet. It did make more room for stuff though.

I think Abby might have seasonal allergies rather than something constant but we’ll see. She mostly gets red around the eyes and rubs her face, a bit itchy on her neck so I took off her collar. They aren’t making her miserable so that’s good.

The blueberries are interesting. They taste like slightly salty blueberries. I’ve been adding them to smoothies so the salt isn’t really noticeable but I can’t see using the brine for anything. I’m going to try a different ferment with water kefir and see if I like that, which is the method recommended for the dressing recipe I want to try.

My poor Westie, she was in perfect health until about age 8. Then it was one thing after another (but she made it till age 14). The vet did some allergy tests on her and found out she was allergic to everything dogs like...grass, leaves, certain trees, weeds. The shots really helped and she was very cooperative about getting them.

I understand about things getting pushed out of reach. DH is 6' and I'm a bit under 5'4". The shelves you got should really help!

Keep us posted on how your new blueberry experiment turns out!

Hi ladies, thank you! So far the rest of the crew is still here. Hubs agrees this was likely a hawk attack. We do get owls but primarily a breeding pair in winter and they don’t typically show up until around November. They do nest nearby though and they have been in my yard more than once, although I’ve only seen one during the day once and it was after chicks not full grown chickens. It surprises me that the roo was taken down when I have the two AC chicks and a couple of smallish hens. The girls tended to stick together and the roo was still sort of the odd man out though. Anyway, what’s done is done, but that was a sad event.

I still have the AC cockerel so I’ll hang on to him for now and I’m just going to move forward with I’ve got.

There’s a guy that bred an AC roo with regular hens and his pullets inherited the melanistic genes but the boys didn’t so that might be interesting to try next year.

I figured that it would most likely have been a hawk and not an owl. Don't owl's mostly just move about at night?

I have heard before that breeding a AC to none AC hen's will produce sort of a sexlink by only the girl chick's having the darker skin, but not the boy's. I guess that would make it easier to cull the boy's at hatch if you weren't going to eat them.

I should probably clean off a shelf of book's over here and make room for all of the spices that are over here. There's 16 shelves full of book's, and more book's that are in boxes because there's no more room in the bookcases.

Owls are diurnal, I’ve gone out at break after 0900 and found one in my yard after chicks. This was in early Spring, but it’s still a bit early for them to be around. We have a pair that nest nearby. The thing is, I haven’t seen many hawks this year, at least not like in years past.

I got rid of all my books. The pantry is full, plus a smaller cabinet and I needed to be able to find my stuff! Nothing like being in a hurry to add something and you have to take half the stuff out to find it in the cabinet

:hugs

Good morning IM! I was wondering if that was what happened! It was a very sad day! I'm glad that you still have your AC cockerel & are planning to move forward with him!:hugs

I like your spice racks. I have a set inside on one of my cabinet doors...it's so convenient!

I hope the vets suggestions bring Abby some relief! Allergies are not fun!

Have you used elderberry syrup before? I've always wondered if it was effective!

I'm glad that you're back! 💞
Hi Rene! Yes, elderberry is a standard concoction in the winter months. I can’t honestly say whether it does anything but we don’t get sick a lot so it might lol. That being said, if we do get sick it doesn’t seem to hang on like it does for a lot of folks and we keep using the syrup right through the illness. Mine has vodka in it, 1 cup to 3 cups honey and elderberry juice, but I give a tsp to the kids at bedtime.

Thank you for the information IM! It sounds like it might do something to help! That's good to know!

Here’s the final product. This is a new recipe and I think I like it more than those I’ve used in years past. It’s much more concentrated than a lot of recipes out there so only a couple tsp per day is necessary. We will probably use a shot glass. The recipe calls for 1 c honey but that wasn’t quite enough so I added an additional half cup. I also think I prefer vodka over brandy because it doesn’t impact flavor. Recipe is here

They aren’t mine lol, my son and DIL just picked them up. I’ve heard Neptune, Eclipse, Lucifer and Hubble being kicked around so far.

Aha, grand goats! Took me a minute, I was all excited about you getting to keep the little stinkers.
